What is your life’s purpose? Sometimes, we ask ourselves this very question. To explore and simplify this idea, the upcoming film Mannu Kya Karega, releasing on September 12, delves into this theme. The film’s star cast—Rajesh Kumar, Vyom, Sachhi Bindra, and director Sanjay Tripathi—shared their insights with LatestHype. They explained how one can find their life’s purpose and also responded firmly to comparisons with other films on social media.

Q: Today, when everyone has answers to everything, your film starts with a question: “Mannu Kya Karega?” Why?
Answer / Sanjay Tripathi: This is a question asked in every household—”Beta, what next?” Mannu is just like that—talented, full of potential, but lost about what he wants to do. His life takes another turn when a girlfriend enters the picture. A key dialogue in the film is, “You can find a job, but not your purpose by just searching.” The story revolves around how Mannu discovers himself.
Q: The film critiques the education system—we teach kids about the world but fail to show them their purpose. Thoughts?
Answer / Rajesh Kumar: Absolutely. Today’s education system has boxed kids into fixed expectations. Through this film, we want to tell this generation, “Prepare for the universe, not just university.” Parents and teachers must stop pressuring kids with comparisons. Let them find their own wings—they will build their own nests.

Q: Vyom, you’re playing the lead. Do you also ask yourself, “Vyom Kya Karega?” Also, tell us about your character.
Answer / Vyom: Every morning, I ask myself, “What must I do today to fulfill my dreams?” If someone isn’t asking this question, they’re lost. In the film, I play Dev, a role I easily resonated with. I stayed in the college campus during shoots instead of a hotel to immerse myself in the character. Even after packing up, I interacted with students to stay in the role.
Q: Sachhi, in the poster, you’re holding a book with “IKIGAI” written on it. What does it mean, and how does it connect to the film?
Answer / Sachhi: I play Jiya, a focused girl who knows her purpose. The book with “IKIGAI” (meaning “life’s purpose”) reflects the film’s theme—Mannu’s journey of self-discovery. Personally, I’ve found my purpose—I’ve always wanted to be in the film industry. If not an actor, I’d have pursued direction or writing.

Q: You’ve cast newcomers—a rarity in Bollywood. Why, and how did the casting happen?
Answer / Sanjay Tripathi: I consider myself fortunate to work with fresh talent. Newcomers are eager to learn. Sachhi had worked as an AD earlier, so she understood sets well. Once, for a night scene, we couldn’t rehearse at a table. When I suggested rehearsing on location, Vyom and Sachhi immediately agreed. Such dedication is rare.
Q: Some are comparing your film to another recent movie. Your response?
Answer / Rajesh Kumar: Not every musical film is the same. A recent tweet wrongly equated us. The industry belongs to everyone—millions work hard here. Quick judgments should end. Mannu Kya Karega is a film that will help anyone find their purpose at any stage of life.
